I saw this sign on the streetcar this past weekend — and it made me a little mad:
“Future Proof Your Career!!” 😡
You’ve probably seen those ads too — training, AI, management courses, certificates… all promising you can somehow “shield yourself” from the future.
Here’s the truth: you can’t future proof.
We are living through massive, fundamental change. The next 50 years will reshape humanity more profoundly than the past 400 did. Every day, we’re adapting — whether we realize it or not. And trying to “protect” yourself against that wave? It’s like planting your feet on the seafloor as a tsunami approaches 🌊. It won’t work, and it will wear you out.
